At least 1,700 centuries old clay tablets from the Achemenid times were put on display in Tehran's National Museum of Iran on Wednesday, after they were returned from the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute.
The centuries-old tablets and fragments had been given to the University of Chicago in 1937 for research purposes.
"Returning these tablets has another message, which is that scientific and research cooperation is not related to the world of politics," said Iranian Cultural Heritage Minister Ali Asghar Mounesan.
According to reports, the 1,783 tablets were supposed to be returned to Iran during the presidency of George W. Bush, but the former US President refused to hand them over.
