03.10.2019 | 9:56 PM | IRVINE - A female student was stabbed multiple times while walking her dog on the University of California, Irvine campus in what was believed to be a botched rape attempt, Sunday night.

Authorities responded to reports of the stabbing in the 33200 block of Arroyo Drive at the Camino del Sol Student Housing shortly before 10:00 PM.Units arriving on scene found a 22-year-old female inside an apartment with abrasions to her face and at least two stab wounds.

Firefighter paramedics treated the victim on scene before transporting her to OC Global Medical Center as a trauma patient.

Police reports indicate the woman was walking her dog in the area of Camino del Sol when a suspect accosted her from behind and attempted to forcibly remove her clothing.

A struggle ensued and the woman was struck in the face and then stabbed with what the was described as a knife with a 4" blade.

The male suspect, described only as a large male wearing a dark colored hoodie, fled the scene on foot and remained at large.

Authorities instituted a temporary lock-down of the campus and issued a shelter-in-place order while a K9 search was conducted to no avail.
